Although the activities of the Mount Royal Municipal Association (MRMA) had to be severely curtailed for an extended period due to the Covid 19 pandemic we did manage throughout to attend monthly Council meetings online if not in person in keeping with our mandate to advocate for and contribute to an improved quality of life for all Town residents, as we have done for over 90 years.

The planned Sports and Community Centre is the most important issue at this time. The Centre went to tender after years of planning and many committees in which the MRMA was always involved. Unfortunately construction costs had skyrocketed largely due to COVID and the project had to be temporarily shelved. The present Council, elected in November 2021, decided on a revised concept which was revealed in the presentation on Feb. 1 & 2 about the Vision for the future of  the whole area from Churchill to Dunkirk and from Roosevelt to Montgomery.

The new revised Sports and Community Centre will be built between the wonderful indoor parking complex built by the Rossy family and the present recreation building which will remain standing until the new complex has been completed.  No plans were presented at that time but the new complex is intended to be less costly, have all the services offered in the first version in a smaller footprint and hopefully completed within the next 3 years.

There are other areas that also require monitoring: the landscaping of the Parc de la Gare (which was proposed by the MRMA) between the two bridges in the town centre, the project to be built at 1000 Lucerne, plantings along the western border of the REM corridor north of the new station,  maintenance  of the town roads and streets, possible updating of construction bylaws to respond to changing weather patterns due to climate change, and following up on the progress of the Royalmount project, and other major developments.

The MRMA is an association of volunteers that needs your support to work for all the residents of TMR. Membership fees are $15 per family and exceptionally this time will be for 2023 and 2024.
